TEACHABLE SPIRIT
Knowing God Through His Word

HOLY SPIRIT
HE IS THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Behold, I will pour out my Spirit unto you,
I will make known My Words unto you.
 Proverbs 1:23

HOLY SPIRIT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED THROUGH PROPHECY

Holy Spirit was introduced through the Prophet Ezekiel, when God gave Ezekiel a message to deliver to the people of Israel.

As it is written:
Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Holy Spirit is God's Spirit, sent on assignment to live in every born-again human being on the face of the earth.

Because Holy Spirit is God's Spirit, He is also omnipresent.  He is present everywhere on the face of the earth at the same time.

When Jesus had completed His assignment here on earth, and it was nearing the time that He had to return to Heaven, He talked with His disciples about Holy Spirit, the Comforter.

As it is written:
John 15:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

As it is written:
John 16:5-7

5 But now I go My way to Him that sent Me: and none of you asked Me, where are you going?
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you: but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.

The promise Jesus made to His disciples was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.

As it is written:
Acts 2:1-4

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

THE ASSIGNMENT OF HOLY SPIRIT

Our God and now the Father of every born-again human being, has sent His Holy Spirit to lead us and to guide us in all truth.

As it is written:
John 16:13-15
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak of Himself; but whatever He shall hear; that He will speak; and He will show you things to come.
14 He will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and shall show it to you.
15 All things that the Father has are Mine.  Therefore, I said that He will take of Mine and show it to you.

Holy Spirit Is Our Lifeline to Everlasting Life

As it is written:
John 4:14
But whosoever drink of the water [Holy Spirit] that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

As it is written:

John 7:37-38
37...
If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink.
38 He that believes on Me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water [Holy Spirit].

Holy Spirit Strengthens Us

As it is written:
Romans 8:11
But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you.

Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us

As it is written:
Romans 8:26

Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning's which cannot be uttered.

Holy Spirit Knows the Purpose and Plan for Our Lives

As it is written:
Romans 8:27-28
27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose

Holy Spirit Speaks to God on Our Behalf

As it is written:
I Corinthians 14 :2
Follow after charity [love], and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.  For he who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.

Holy Spirit Was Made Known to the Prophet Jude

As it is written:
Jude 1:20
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit Leads and Guides People of God

As it is written:
Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.

Holy Spirit Confirms That We Are the Children of God

As it is written:
Romans 8:16
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.

The Fruit (Nature) of Holy Spirit

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians has put in writing his relationship with Holy Spirit.

As it is written:
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering [patience], gentleness [kindness], faith,
23 Meekness [humility], and temperance [self-control]: against such there is no law.

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians goes into detail as to what he knows about the love of Holy Spirit.

As it is written:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails.  But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Knowing the love of Holy Spirit:

  ● Holy Spirit's love is patient.

  ● Holy Spirit's love is kind.

  ● Holy Spirit's love does not envy.

  ● Holy Spirit's love does not boast.

  ● Holy Spirit's love is not proud.

  ● Holy Spirit's love does not dishonor others.

  ● Holy Spirit's love is not self-seeking.

  ● Holy Spirit's love is not easily provoked [angered].

  ● Holy Spirit's love keeps no record of wrongs.

  ● Holy Spirit's love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

  ● Holy Spirit's love always protects.

  ● Holy Spirit's love always trusts.

  ● Holy Spirit's love always hopes.

  ● Holy Spirit's love always perseveres.

  ● Holy Spirit's love never fails.

Holy Spirit Lives Within Every Born-Again Believer

When we believe the gospel, good news, given to us by Jesus from the Father, and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior; our bodies become a place where Holy Spirit can come in and live.  Our bodies are now the temple of God, which we must be careful not to defile.

As it is written:
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
16 Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
17 If any man defiles the temple of God, him shell God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

Equally important as not defiling one's body, is that of not grieving Holy Spirit.

As it is written:
Ephesians 4:30
And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Living Life by the Power of Holy Spirit

When we confess our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, by faith, we are delivered from our old way of living.

As it is written:
2 Corinthians 5:17-18
17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things have become new.
18 And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation.

Our new way of living begins as Holy Spirit leads and guides us in all truth; with the "Word" of God leading the way.  We cannot live this born-again life without Holy Spirit we don't have the power.  It is Holy Spirit who empowers us.  With Holy Spirit in control, He enables us to live the lifestyle that is the will of God, and therefore is pleasing to God.

We have now become the "righteousness" of God.

As it is written:
2 Corinthians 5:21

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

Let us hold dear to our hearts the words Jesus spoke to His disciples about Holy Spirit before His return to His Father in Heaven.
Everything that Jesus is, His Holy Spirit is.

The Spirit of our Lord and Savior Jesus now lives in each one of us that are born-again believers.  Holy Spirit communicates with us, He prays to God on our behalf in a language unknown to us.

Holy Spirit never sleeps.  He is always at work within us, and for us, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  Yes, He is at work on our behalf even when we are sleeping.  Praise God.

Finally, the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans, talks about Holy Spirit, and the change that will take place in one's life when Holy Spirit comes to live within one's heart.

Romans Chapter 8:1-39

1 If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won’t be condemned.
The Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you free from sin and death.
The Law of Moses cannot do this, because our selfish desires make the Law weak.  But God set us free when He sent His own Son in the likeness of sin, to be a sacrifice for our sin. God used Christ’s body to condemn sin.
He did this, so that we would do what the Law commands by obeying the Spirit instead of our own desires.
People who are ruled by their desires think only of themselves.  Everyone who is ruled by the Spirit thinks about spiritual things.
If our minds are ruled by our desires, we will die.  But if our minds are ruled by the Spirit, we will have life and peace.
Our desires fight against God, because they do not and cannot obey God’s laws.
If we follow our desires, we cannot please God.
You are no longer ruled by your desires, but by God’s Spirit, who lives in you.  People who don’t have the Spirit of Christ in them don’t belong to him.
10 But Christ lives in you.  So, you are alive because God has accepted you, even though your bodies must die because of your sins.
11
Yet God raised Jesus to life.  God’s Spirit now lives in you, and He will raise you to life by His Spirit.
12 My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires.
13
If we do, we will die.  But we will live, if by the help of God’s Spirit, we say “No” to our desires.
14
Only those people who are led by God’s Spirit are His children.
15
God’s Spirit doesn’t make us slaves who are afraid of Him.  Instead, we become His children and call Him our Father.
16
God’s Spirit makes us sure that we are His children.
17 His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with Him.
18
I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us.
19
In fact, all creation is eagerly waiting for God to show who His children are.
20 Meanwhile, creation is confused, but not because it wants to be confused.  God made it this way in the hope
21
that creation would be set free from decay and would share in the glorious freedom of His children.
22
We know that all creation is still groaning and is in pain, like a woman about to give birth.
23
The Spirit makes us sure about what we will be in the future.  But now we groan silently, while we wait for God to show that we are His children. This means that our bodies will also be set free.
24
And this hope is what saves us. But if we already have what we hope for, there is no need to keep on hoping.
25
However, we hope for something we have not yet seen, and we patiently wait for it.
26 In certain ways we are weak, but the Spirit is here to help us.  For example, when we don’t know what to pray for, the Spirit prays for us in ways that cannot be put into words.
27
All of our thoughts are known to God.  He can understand what is in the mind of the Spirit, as the Spirit prays for God’s people.
28
We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves Him.  They are the ones God has chosen for His purpose,
29
and He has always known who His chosen ones would be.  He had decided to let them become like His own Son, so that His Son would be the first of many children.
30
God then accepted the people He had already decided to choose, and He has shared His glory with them.
31
What can we say about all this?  If God is on our side, can anyone be against us?
32 God did not keep back His own Son, but He gave Him for us.  If God did this, won’t He freely give us everything else?
33
If God says His chosen ones are acceptable to Him, can anyone bring charges against them?
34
Or can anyone condemn them?  No indeed. Christ died and was raised to life, and now He is at God’s right side, speaking to Him for us.
35 Can anything separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble, suffering, and hard times, or hunger and nakedness, or danger and death?
36
It is exactly as the Scriptures say, for we face death all day long.  We are like sheep on their way to be slaughtered.
37
In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.
38 I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love, not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future,
39
and not powers above or powers below.  Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men,
but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

Matthew 12-31

Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven,
but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven,
neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Matthew 12:32
