THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS
...All authority is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.
Matthew 28:18
All authority originated from God the Father. What is authority? Authority is the right to exercise power. God named His Son, Jesus, and in that name, God placed all the authority and power of God Himself.
When God sent His Son into the world, Mary was instructed to name Him "Jesus." As it is written: And the angel said unto her, don't be afraid Mary: for you have found favor with God. And behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call His name Jesus. Luke 1:30-31
As it is written:
Matthew 12:18-21
18 Behold My servant, whom I have chosen: My beloved, in whom My soul is well pleased: I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall show judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry: neither shall any man hear His voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall He not break [He will not harm the helpless], and a smoking flax shall he not quench [He will not extinguish the life or hope of man], until He sends forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in His name shall the Gentiles trust.
THE AUTHORITY THAT IS IN JESUS AND IN HIS NAME
As it is written:
Matthew 18:5
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in My name receives Me.

19 Again, I say to you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them.

29 And everyone that has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundred-fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in Your name, and he doesn't follow us: and we forbid him, because he doesn't follow us.
39 But Jesus said, don't forbid him: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in My name, that can lightly speak evil of Me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our side.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, verily I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.

AUTHORITIES GIVEN TO BORN-AGAIN BELIEVERS BY JESUS
Jesus came into this world with the authority that His Father had bestowed upon Him. Not only did Jesus Himself have authority, but His name also carried that same authority. When Jesus returned to the Father, He gave born-again believers that same authority and the use of His name, which has authority in it when spoken.
Jesus' living, dying, resurrection, and ascension would have all been for nothing, had He not given born-again believers authority to continue on in His name when His assignment here on earth was fulfilled.
As it is written:
John 14:12-14
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believes on Me, the works that I do shall he do also: and greater works than these shall he do: because I go to My Father.
13 And whatsoever you shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you shall ask anything in My name, I will do it.
1. The Authority to "Bind" and to "Loose"
As it is written:
Matthew 18:18
18 Verily I say unto you, whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
To "bind" is to put an end to that which is not of God here on earth and it will be bound in Heaven.
To "loose" is to release the living Word of God written in the Holy Bible and the living Word of God will be loosed in Heaven to come into being here on earth.
For example:
First "Bind," (put an end to), the spirit of fear and command it to leave, in the name of Jesus.
Then "Loose," (release), the living Word of God, in the name of Jesus.
As it is written:
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2. The Authority to Heal and Cast Out Demon Spirits
As it is written:
Mark 16:17-18
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 They will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
Jesus has given born-again believers permission to use the power that's in His name. The name that God had bestowed on Him.
As it is written:
John 17:11-12
11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by the power of Your name, the name You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one.
12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name You gave Me.
By speaking, "in the name of Jesus," as Jesus has instructed us to do, we are using the power in His name.
By doing so, we are allowing Jesus to answer our prayers from His throne in heaven as if He were still here on earth healing, delivering, and casting out demons.
Note: The Apostle John was the youngest of Jesus twelve disciples and he was an eyewitness to all that Jesus taught, and to all the many wonderful things that Jesus did throughout His ministry. John wanted the world to know that there were many things that Jesus did and performed. That is why at the end of his letter he left these words.

John 21:25
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
And every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God, the Father.
