SATAN...THE FALLEN ANGEL

You were blameless in your ways, from the day you were created
until wrongdoing was found in you.

Ezekiel 28:15

Who is Satan and why is he here on earth?  The answer is found in the Holy Bible.  The Bible is the inspired, God breathed, Word of God.  The writers, whom God chose, wrote what God's Holy Spirit moved them to write.

As it is written:
2 Peter 1:21
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

As it is written:
2 Timothy 3:16

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Now that we know that the Holy Bible was given to us by our God.  Let's begin learning about Satan and why he and his angels are here on planet earth.

THE STORY OF SATAN...THE FALLEN ANGELIC BEING

Who is Satan?
Satan is a cherub, an angelic being created by God.

As it is written:
Ezekiel 28:12-15, 17

12 Thus said the Lord: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and flawless in beauty.

13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your adornment: carnelian, chrysolite, and amethyst; Beryl, lapis lazuli, and jasper; sapphire, turquoise, and emerald; and gold beautifully wrought for you, mined for you, prepared the day you were created.
14 I created you as a cherub with outstretched shielding wings; and you resided on God's holy mountain; you walked among stones of fire.
15
You were blameless in your ways; from the day you were created until wrongdoing was found in you.
17. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may see you.

Satan Loses His Residence in Heaven

Satan lost his residence in heaven and is now here on earth because of his bold and failed attempt to overthrow the Almighty Sovereign God, the one that created him.

The cherub, winged being, Satan, rebelled against God by saying that he would be like the Most High God.  Not only did he rebel but he caused a large number of angelic beings to rebel as well.  When they rebelled against God, a war broke out in heaven.

The cherub that we know as Satan, and his angels fought with the archangel Michael and his angels. Satan, and the angels that fought with him lost the war and their place of residence in heaven.  Satan and some of the angels that fought with him were hurled down to earth, while others were placed in chains.

As it is written:
Revelation 12:7-9
7 Then war broke out in heaven.  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.
9 The great dragon was hurled down, that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

As it is written:
Jude 1:6
6 And the angels who kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

As it is written:
Luke 10:18
18 And He [Jesus] said unto them, I saw Satan as lighting fall from heaven.

The prophet Isaiah writes this about Satan:

As it is written:
Isaiah 14:12-17

12 How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn. How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low.
13 You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God, I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north.
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.
15 But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.
16 Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over you:
17 Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?

When Satan, the fallen cherub and the angels with him were hurled to earth, they roamed all over the earth.  The Bible lets us know that Satan was in the garden of Eden.

As it is written
Ezekiel 28:13

13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your adornment.

Satan fell to earth full of wrath.  That is why scripture says, woe to the inhabitants of the world Satan has come down.

As it is written:
Revelation 12:12
12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them.  Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea.  For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time.

Satan's Residence on Earth

In heaven Satan had made a bold and failed attempt to overthrow God.  What Satan wanted to achieve in heaven he could not.  He could not make himself like the Most High God.

Still angry, Satan made yet another bold attempt.  Satan wanted to achieve on earth what he could not achieve in heaven.  Satan wanted Adam and everything that God had given to Adam to have dominion over...

As it is written:
Genesis 1:26
26 And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth, and all the creeping things that creep on earth.

With his knowledge of the Word of God, and his ability to manipulate, Satan achieved want he wanted.  He deceived Eve and then Adam, and in doing so, he took dominion over Adam and all that God had given Adam dominion over.

Because of Adam and Eve's sin we their descendants were born with a sin nature.  Because of the sin nature inherited from Adam and Eve, human beings are now subject to being deceived by the enemy of our souls, Satan.

As it is written:
Genesis 3:1-7
1 Now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild beasts that God had made.  He said to the woman, did God really say: you shall not eat of any tree of the garden?
2 The woman replied to the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the other trees of the garden.
3 It is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said: you shall not eat of it or touch it, lest you die.

4 And the serpent said to the woman, you are not going to die,
5 God knows that as soon as you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like divine beings who know good and evil.

6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for eating and a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable as a source of wisdom, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave some to her husband, and he ate.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they perceived that they were naked; and they sewed together fig leaves and made themselves coverings.

Even though Satan's sin nature is in man, he does not have dominion over the earth.  God is Sovereign, he rules the world.  Satan has to answer to God.  Satan has to get permission from God.

Satan and His Reign Here on Earth

In a vision God showed the prophet Zechariah Satan standing before God to accuse the high priest Joshua.

As it is written:
Zechariah 3:1
1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.  And the angel said to Satan, The Lord rebuke you, O Satan.  The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you.  Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?

As it is written:
Revelation 12:10
12 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God, day and night.

Satan is a Tempter

With his knowledge of the Word of God, Satan tried and failed three times in his attempt to cause Jesus to sin against God.  Satan came and tempted Jesus when Jesus had finished his forty days of fasting and was hungry.

As it is written:
Matthew 4:3-4
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, if you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God

Jesus' reply was from God's Word in Deuteronomy 8:3. ...Man does not live by bread only, but by every Word that proceeds out of the Lord do man live.

As it is written:
Matthew 4:5-7
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city and sat Him on a pinnacle of the temple.
6 If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning you: and in their hands they shall lift you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said to him, it is written again, you shall not tempt the Lord your God.

Satan went to Psalm 91:11-12 to tempt Jesus.  As it is written: For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Jesus' reply was from God's Word in Deuteronomy 6:16, You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted Him in Massah.

As it is written:
Matthew 4:8-11
8 Again, the devil took Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And said to Him, all these things will I give to you, if you will fall down and worship me.
10 Then Jesus said to him, get thee hence [be gone], Satan: for it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve
11 Then the devil left Him, and angels came and ministered to him.

Jesus' reply was from God's Word in Deuteronomy 6:13. Revere only the Lord your God, and worship Him alone, and swear only by His name.

Satan is the Father of Lies

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has made it known to us, that Satan is the father of lies.

As it is written:
John 8:44
44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

The Apostle Paul writes the following about Satan.

As it is written:
2 Corinthians 11:14
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Satan Came to Steal, Kill and Destroy

As it is written:

John 10:10
10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

As it is written:

I Peter 5:8
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.

As it is written:
Jude 1:9
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, did not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, the Lord rebuke you.

Satan Is Defeated

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the saints in Colosse wrote the following about the defeat of Satan.

As it is written:
Colossians 2:14-15
14 Having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; He [Jesus] has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

The Judgment of Satan

The Apostle John, the youngest disciple of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, was banished to the island of Patmos because of the Word of God, and his testimony of Jesus.  While there, John saw things that were to take place in the future.  It was revealed to John the judgment of Satan.

As it is written:
Revelation 20:1-3

1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.
2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended.  After that, he must be set free for a short time.

As it is written:
Revelation 20:10
10 And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus lets His disciples know that it was time for Him to go back to the Father.  His completed assignment here on earth was coming to a close.  Jesus had taken back all that Adam had given to Satan.

As it is written:
John 14:30-31
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on me
31
But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do.

The Apostle Paul confirms what Jesus had spoken.

As it is written:
Colossians 2:15
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Submit yourselves, then, to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
