TEACHABLE SPIRIT
Knowing God Through His Word

What I Believe

As a born-again believer I believe the Word of God written in the Holy Bible to be the true Word of God.

As it is written:
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

As it is written:
2 Peter 1:21
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

I believe that there is only one eternal God.

As it is written:
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

As it is written:
Isaiah 44:6

6 Thus says the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

As it is written:
Revelation 1:8
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, says the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

I believe that there is only one "Son" of God.

As it is written:
John 1:14
14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.  We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

As it is written:
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

As it is written:
Luke 1:26-33
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
28 The angel went to her and said, greetings, you who are highly favored. The Lord is with you.
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
30 But the angel said to her, do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.
31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call Him Jesus.
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David,
33 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.

I believe in the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Death
As it is written:
Luke 23:46
46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, Father, into your hands I commit My Spirit.  When He had said this, He breathed His last.

Burial
As it is written:
Luke 23:50-53
50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
51 who had not consented to their decision and action.  He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.
52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body.
53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.

Resurrection
As it is written:

Luke 24:6-7
6 He is not here; He has risen.  Remember how He told you, while He was still with you in Galilee:
7 Saying, the Son of man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.

As it is written:
John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said to her [Martha the sister of Lazarus], I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?

Ascension

As it is written:
John 3:13
13 And no man has ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

As it is written:
John 6:62

62 What and if you shall see the Son of man ascend up where He was before?

As it is written:
Acts 1:6-9

6 So when they met together [the disciples], they asked Him, Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?
7 He said to them: It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
9 After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

I believe that Jesus is the only way to the Father.

As it is written:
John 6:44
44 No man can come to Me, except the Father which has sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

As it is written:
John 14:6

6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by Me.

I believe that Holy Spirit lives in every born-again believer.

As it is written:
John 15:26
26 But when the Comforter has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me.

As it is written:
Act 2:1-4
1 And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

I believe in the giving of tithes and offerings.

The prophet Malachi, whose name means "my messenger," was a Hebrew prophet.  He put in writing what God had spoken to him.

As it is written:
Malachi 3:10
10 Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, and let there be food in My house, and thus put Me to the test, said the Lord of Hosts.  I will surely open the floodgates of the sky for you and pour down blessings on you.
The Israel Bible.

I believe in water baptism.

As it is written:
Matthew 28:19
19 Therefore go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

I believe in holy communion.

As it is written:
Luke 22:19-20
19 And He took bread, and gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, this is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.
20 In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, this cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.

As it is written:
John 6:54-56
54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink.
56 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.

I believe in fasting.

As it is written:
Matthew 6:17-18
17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;
18
That you appear not unto men to fast, but unto your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly.

As it is written:
Isaiah 58:6-9

6 Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free.
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter and when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

I believe in the five ministries that Jesus has given to the church.

As it is written:

Ephesians 4:11-13
11 So, Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors, and teachers.
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fulness of Christ.

I believe that there is a place called Hell prepared for Satan, fallen angels, and the unbelievers.

As it is written:
Luke 16:19-26
19 There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.

20
At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores,
21
and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 The time came when the beggar died, and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 In Hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
24 So he called to him, Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.
25 But Abraham replied, son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.
26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.

As it is written:
Matthew 13:41-43
41 The Son of man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.  He who has ears, let him hear.

As it is written:
Revelation 20:14-15
14 Then death and Hades [Satan] were thrown into the lake of fire.  The lake of fire is the second death.
15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

I believe that there is a Heaven, and that Jesus is coming back for the born-again believers.

As it is written:
John 14:1-3
1 Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you.  I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Until you grow old, I will still be the same;
When you turn gray, it is I who will carry you;
I was the Maker, and I will be the Bearer;
And I will carry and rescue you.

Isaiah 46:4

And it is so, in the name of Jesus.
