KNOWING GOD THROUGH HIS LIVING WORD

Our God has revealed to us, His creation, what He would have each one of us to know about Him.  The following scriptures are just a few among the many scriptures in the Holy Bible that reveals who our God is.


 God Has All Authority

As it is written: 

Isaiah 45:18
18 For this is what the Lord that created the heavens has to say; God Himself that formed the earth and made it; He has established it, He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: I Am the Lord; and there is no one else. 


God is Benevolent

As it is written:

Lamentations 3:22-26 
22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. 
23 They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness. 
24 The Lord is my portion, says my soul: therefore, will I hope in Him. 
25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him. 
26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.  


God Is Our Creator

As it is written:

Nehemiah 9:6
6 You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Colossians 1:16
16 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in the earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.  

Revelation 4:11
11 You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created.


God Is Our Deliverer

As it is written:

Psalm 50:15
15 And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.

Psalm 18:2-3
2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower. 
3 I call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; and I am saved from my enemies. 

Psalm 34:4
4 I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. 

Psalm 34:17
17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. 

Psalm 107:20
20 He sent out His word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction.


God Is Eternal

As it is written:

Job 36:26
26 Behold, God is great, and we know Him not, neither can the number of His years be searched out.

Isaiah 40:28

28 Do you not know?  Have you not heard?  The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary.  There is no searching of His understanding. 

Daniel 4:3
3 How great are His signs, and how mighty are His wonders.  His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation.  

Romans 1:20
20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.

 

God Is Faithful 

As it is written:

Exodus 34:6
6 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed: The Lord, the Lord, a God compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and faithfulness.

Deuteronomy 7:9
9 Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant [an agreement] and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations. 

Psalm 100:5 
5 For God is good; His steadfast love is eternal; His faithfulness is for all generations. 

2 Timothy 2:13
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.


God Is Our Father

As it is written:

Isaiah 63:16
16 But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, or Israel acknowledge us; you, Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is Your name. 

Isaiah 64:8
8 But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we all are the work of your hand.

Matthew 23:9
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Romans 8:15-16
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father. 
16 The Spirit Himself bear witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.  


The Favor of God

As it is written:

Psalm 84:11
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor.  No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. 

Proverbs 12:2
2 A good man obtains favor of the Lord; but a man of wicked devices will He condemn.

Luke 1:30
30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” 

Luke 2:52
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. 


God Is Forgiving

As it is written:

Isaiah 43:25
25 I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake and will not remember your sins.

Isaiah 55:7
7 Let the wicked give up his ways, the sinful man his plans; let him turn back to God, and He will pardon him; to our God, for He freely forgives.

Daniel 9:9
9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against Him. 

Psalm 86:5
5 For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon you.  


The Glory of God

As it is written:

Isaiah 6:3
3 And one [angel] called to another and said: holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.

Isaiah 40:5
5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.  

Isaiah 42:8
8 I am the Lord, that is My name: and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.  

Psalm 19:1
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His Hands. 


God is Good

As it is written:

1 Chronicles 16:34
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  His faithful love endures forever.

Nahum 1:7
7 The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. 

James 1:17 
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift are from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness [change], neither shadow of turning.   

Psalm 107:1 
1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good: for His mercy endures forever. 


God Is Graceful

As it is written:

Titus 2:11
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men.

Ephesians 2:8
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.  

Ephesians 4:7
7 But to every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Hebrews 4:16
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.  


God Is Our Guide

As it is written:

Isaiah 30:21
21 And, whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will heed the command from behind you: this is the road; follow it.

Isaiah 58:11
11 The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your thirst in parched places and give strength to your bones.  You shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters do not fail.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. 
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.  

Proverbs 16:9
9 A man's heart devise's [plans] his way: but the Lord directs his steps. 


God Is Our Healer

As it is written:

Exodus 15:26
26 ...For I the Lord Am your healer. 

Jeremiah 30:17
17 For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord.  

Psalm 103:3
3 Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases. 

Psalm 107:20
20 He sent His Word and healed them.  

Psalm 147:3
3 He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds


God Is Holy

As it is written: 

Leviticus 19:2
2 You shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy. 

Isaiah 5:16
16 But the Lord of hosts will be exalted in judgment, and the holy God will show Himself holy in righteousness. 

Isaiah 6:3
3 And one [angel] cried to another and said, Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory. 

Psalm 99:9
9 Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy. 


God is the I AM

As it is written:

Genesis 17:1
1 ...I Am God Almighty; walk before Me and be blameless.

Exodus 3:14
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, thus shall you say unto the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.  

Jeremiah 32:26-27
26 Then the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
27 Behold I AM the Lord, the God of all flesh.  Is anything too hard for Me?

Revelation 1:8
8 I Am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.


God Is a Jealous God

As it is written:

Deuteronomy 4:24
24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. 

Exodus 34:14
14 For you shall worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God


God Is a God of Judgment

As it is written:

Isaiah 30:18 
18 Therefore, will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore, will He be exalted, that He may have mercy on you: for the Lord is a God of judgment; blessed are all they that wait for Him. 

Jeremiah 32:19
19 Great in counsel and mighty in work: for your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings

Hebrews 10:30
30 For we know Him that has said, vengeance belongs to Me, I will recompense, says the Lord.  And again, the Lord shall judge His people.


God Is Kind 

As it is written:

Titus 3:4-6
4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration [rebirth] and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
6 Whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Ephesians 2:7
7 That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us through Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 54:8
8 In a surge of anger, I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you, says the Lord your Redeemer.

 

God Is Love

As it is written:

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  

I John 3:1
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed [granted] upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. 

I John 4:16 
16 And we have known and believed the love that God has to us.  God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.  

Jeremiah 31:3
3 The Lord has appeared of old unto me, saying, yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore, with loving kindness have I drawn you.  


God Is Majestic

As it is written:

I Chronicles 29:11
11 Thine, O Lord, is the greatness and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.  

Psalm 93:1
1 The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty [supreme greatness]. 

Psalm 104:1
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul.  O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with honor and majesty.


God Is Merciful

As it is written:

Psalm 86:5
5 For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon you. 

Psalm 118:29
29 O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: for His mercy endures forever. 

Psalm 145:8-9
8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 
9 The Lord is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works.  


God Is Omnipotent (unlimited power, able to do anything)

As it is written:
Matthew 19:26
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said to them, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. 

Jeremiah 32:17
17 Ah Lord God!  Behold, you have made the heaven and the earth by your great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for you.

Revelation 19:6
6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thundering's, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigns. 


God Is Omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time)

As it is written:
Job 34:21
21 For His eyes are upon the ways of man, and He sees all his goings.

Jeremiah 23:23-24
23 Am I a God at hand, says the Lord, and not a God afar off? 
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him?  Says the Lord.  Do not I fill heaven and earth?  Says the Lord. 

Proverbs 15:3
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Deuteronomy 4:39

39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord He is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.  

 
God Is Omniscient (knowing everything)

As it is written:
1 Kings 8:39
39 Then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart you know; for you, even you only, know the hearts of all the children of men.

Psalm 139:4
4 Before a word is on my tongue You know it completely, O Lord.

Psalm 147:4-5
4 He tells [counts] the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.

Matthew 10:30
30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.


God Is Patient

As it is written:

Exodus 34:6
6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in loving kindness and truth.

Psalm 86:15
15 But you, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.  

2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  

Isaiah 48:9
9 For the sake of My name, I delay My wrath, and for My praise I restrain it for you, in order not to cut you off.


God Is Perfect

As it is written:

Deuteronomy 32:4
4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He. 

Psalm 18:30
30 As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.

Matthew 5:48
48 Therefore, be perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. 


God Is Our Protection

As it is written:

Isaiah 41:10,13
10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
13 For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.


Psalm 91:9-12

9 Because you have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, your habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. 
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 
12 They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. 

Psalm 121:7-8
7 The Lord shall preserve [protect] you from all evil, He shall preserve your soul. 
8 The Lord shall preserve [protect] your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. 


God Is Our Provider

As it is written:

Matthew 6:26
26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not worth much more than they?

Matthew 6:31-33
31 Therefore, take no thought, saying, what shall we eat?  Or what will we drink?  Or What will we wear for clothing? 
32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you

2 Peter 1:3
3 Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

Philippians 4:19
19 But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.


God Is Righteous

As it is written:

Jeremiah 9:23-24 
23 Thus says the Lord, let not a wise man boast of his wisdom and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;
24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things, declares the Lord.

Isaiah 5:16
16 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God who is holy will show Himself holy in righteousness.  

Isaiah 46:13
13 I bring near My righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel My glory.


God Is Sovereign (supreme authority, power)

As it is written:
Isaiah 44:6

6 This is what the Lord says, Israel's King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from Me there is no God.

Isaiah 45:7
7 I form the light, and create darkness, I make peace, and create evil, I the Lord do all these things.

Isaiah 46:10
10 Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose.

Daniel 4:35
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand or say to Him, “What have you done?”


God Is Truth

As it is written:

John 8:26
26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.

John 16:13
13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.  He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.

John 17:17
17 Sanctify them through Your truth, Your Word is truth.


God's Will for the Human Race

As it is written:

John 6:40
40 And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that everyone which see the Son, and believe on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 

Matthews 22:37-40
37 Jesus said to him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 
38 This is the first and great commandment. 
39 And the second is like unto it, you shall love your neighbor [fellow man] as yourself. 
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. 

Romans 12:2
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 


God Is a God of Wisdom

As it is written:

Daniel 2:20
20 Daniel answered and said, blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His. 

Proverbs 2:6
6 For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 3:19
19 The Lord by wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding has He established the heavens. 

James 3:17
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 


God's Is a God of Wrath

As it is written:

Matthew 10:28
28 And fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Romans 1:18
18 For the wrath [anger] of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. 

Ephesians 5:6
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath [anger] of God upon the children of disobedience.  

John 3:36
36 He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath [anger] of God abides on him.  



We Have Only One God, Love Him!


 

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear [know, reverence, respect] God and keep his commandments:
for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecclesiastes 12:13
